Charli-Ann Punt is currently completing her masters at Wits in Literature of the Indian Ocean. She completed her bachelors and honours degrees in English literature at the University of Cape Town and also completed an honours degree in screenwriting at AFDA, South Africa’s leading film school. Her current research entails the notion of voyages as operting within liminal spaces in the Indian Ocean. She is exploring this concept through two contemporary Indian Ocean novels, Michael Ondaatje’s The Cat’s Table and Addulrakzak Gurnah’s By the Sea. She hopes to widen this net and continue toward a PhD.
